History was made this week as former Vice President Joe Biden named California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate. Harris, the former California attorney general, has a father who is African American and a mother who is South Asian American. If her ticket is successful, she would be the first woman, African American or Asian American, to be elected vice president. She would also be the second Californian to become the nation’s VP, although the first to come from Northern California.
