Photographer Jose Tobar ventured to City Hall to cover the rally held by local supporters of the president, capturing images of largely unmasked crowds opposing election results and turning on counterprotesters.
While supporters of President Donald Trump infiltrated the U.S. Capitol yesterday, another group of his supporters rallied outside Los Angeles City Hall demanding he remains in office “four more years.”
Although peaceful at the outset, once word got out that the Capitol had been breached, skirmishes and brawls began to break out between the president’s supporters and counterprotesters.
Even the press wasn’t safe, as Trump supporters harassed us and sometimes attempted to take our equipment. I was lucky to have been left alone after declaring myself an independent journalist when asked.
“He’s an independent,” one of them shouted back to the crowd. That seemed to satisfy them for a moment.
In the end, the crowd slowly dispersed after the Los Angeles Police Department declared the rally an unlawful assembly around 12:30 p.m.
